Nuon Solar Team Sponsors Michigan Solar Car Team

As promised...

Last week as the team was packing the semi for its return trip to the United States a very surprising new sponsor was found in the Silver Sponsor section of the semi trailer, Nuon Solar Team! As the Business Director for the team, I naturally set out to find the money owed for such exclusive semi-trailer realestate.

It didn't take much convincing for the Nuon team to decided they did indeed want to be a sponsor of the Michigan team in order to have their name on the website as a Crew Sponsor. Unfortunately, the Crew Sponsorship will not reward Nuon a placement on the semi trailer, but until the trailer returns home in December, it will sport a Nuon Solar Team decal. Bon Voyage!

On behalf of the Michigan team I would like to say thank you to all of the solar car teams for making this experience so amanzing. We all had a great time getting to know you over the past few weeks. We wish you safe travels home and hope that we meet again some day. If you are ever in Michigan, you better let us know!

At the start line

At 8am it is hot and sunny at the start of the race. The cars are all lined up in qualifying order. Infinium is the 6th car in line and will start at 8:35am with Sudeep at the wheel. The scene is energetic. A band plays in the background as people pass by and look at the many different car designs. The croud is a mix of media, curious Darwin locals, parents, and fans of the teams. The parking lot is full of excited chatter in many different languages. It is hard to believe that it has been two years since Continuum's race in the 2007 World Solar Challenge. The Infinium team members have spent countless hours and made so many sacrifices. All for this day. Thank you to all of our sponsors, parents, friends, fans, and all the Infinium team members in Ann Arbor. It takes a huge amount of support to arrive at the start line. We are looking forward to making you proud. Thank you also to the fans that made the trip all the way to Darwin to follow the team during the race. Your enthusiastic spirit has been with us all week. Singing Hail to the Victors yesterday wouldn't have been Big House worthy without our 24-strong cheering squad! Go Fast. Go Smooth. GO BLUE!

Announcement of the Global Green Challenge

The 2009 race this October will mark the inaugural Global Green Challenge event. The Global Green Challenge is an evolution of the World Solar Challenge created to encourage innovations in alternative transportation beyond just solar power. Although our participation in the race will remain largely the same, this October we will be joined by many different types of alternative energy vehicles. "The Global Green Challenge will present hybrid, electric, solar, low emissions, and alternative energy vehicles to a world that is now eager to positively engage with practical transportation solutions to contribute to a healthy future for the planet" said Mike Rann, the South Australian Premier.
