Race Crew

ASC Wrap Up

The 2010 race crew has brought back Michigan's 3rd straight National Championship and 6th overall.  Infinium crossed the finish line 2 hours 12 minutes and 9 seconds ahead of the second place team Minnesota, the official stands can be found here.

Over the course of 6 days, Infinium traveled 1,100 miles averaging 40 mph, which is amazing considering the number of stop lights on this route!  The race crew only had 15 minutes on the side of the the road making a minor electrical repair. To bring back a championship the team had to run a flawless race.  Any downtime or penalties could have cost the team the race, but the team worked hard during the months prior to the race to ensure this didn't happen.

With the race now over, the team turns its sights to the 2011 project.  More pictures from the race should be uploaded in the near future.

Infinium Reaches end of Race Day

After a long day of racing, the team found a campsite in Decatur just off the race route.  Infinium stopped at 6:04PM this evening, and about 6 minutes afterwards, Stanford pulled up just across the street.  Tomorrow morning both teams will be sprinting to Normal attempting to win the stage.

After being tight with Minnesota this morning and afternoon, they had to pull off the road for what is rumored to be battery problems.  We don't know the current location of any other teams, but we believe we are at least 15 minutes ahead of everyone but Stanford.

The team should reach Normal before Noon tomorrow.  Be sure to watch the live chat for instant updates!

Infinium moves past Alton

Infinium cruised smoothly into Alton at 1:30PM in first place.  The University of Minnesota was on and off our tail all morning; Infinium would pull ahead of them on corners and then get stuck in traffic allowing their car to catch up.

At the checkpoint we were able to gain a good charge and leave with a 2 minute lead on Minnesota.  The team will not reach Normal this evening, so the race crew will be looking for a spot to camp for the night.

Infinium leaves Rolla

Last night the team slept inside the air conditioned Missouri S&T Athletic Building.  The team would like to thank the Athletic Department for their gracious accommodations.

This morning the sky was covered in clouds which preventing every team from getting a good charge.  No need to worry though, Infinium's battery pack is in good shape!

Minnesota left 1 minute after Infinium this morning, Michigan currently has a 1 hour and 5 minute lead over Minnesota.  We expect strong competition from them this morning.

This portion of the route features slower speeds and lots of rolling hills.  Infinium is expected to reach Alton this afternoon.

Just Outside Rolla

After cruising into Jefferson City this afternoon, Infinium continued to fly down the road.  The strategists decided to throw the hammer down and it paid off.  Infinium is now 50 miles outside Rolla with Standford sitting 30 plus miles back on the route. Minnesota and Bochum, 2nd and 3rd place, are currently about 60 miles behind Michigan.

Cruising at the speed limit does take a toll on Infinium's battery pack, but after an evening and morning charge the battery will be plenty full to drive full speed into Rolla!

Back on the Road

After a great morning charge, Infinium rolled out of the Topeka stage stop at 9AM.  Minnesota left the stop at 9:01AM.  We are expecting good competition from them this morning.  With clear skies and some faster roads ahead, both teams should make excellent time to Jefferson City.

Keep following the chat for more frequent updates!

Morning of Day 2

The race crew awoke this morning relaxed and refreshed.  Team members worked hard to secure a good morning charge, so Infinium could sprint the 100 remaining miles to Topeka.

Infinium is currently on the road and expected to reach Topeka before Noon.  The team has confirmed Bochum is 20 miles behind Infinium, but not sure on race time.

Look for more pictures and official updates once we reach the stage stop.

Sunrise: Luckily the clouds cleared before we began charging.

Morning Charge: Infinium charged this morning in a farmer's front lawn next to our campsite.

End of Day 1

Infinium ended the race day about 100 miles short of Topeka.  Our team cruised smoothly throughout the day which created a small gap between Infinium and its competitors.  We know Bochum is about 20 miles behind and Minnesota is just behind Bochum.

The team was lucky enough to camp at the Coble family's house.  Their large property allowed the team plenty of room for a evening charge.

We even found a new fan!

The team should reach Topeka tomorrow morning.  Look for lots of pictures.

Infinium is Off!

Infinium rolled over the start line at Noon! Since Infinium won the Formula Sun Grand Prix, the team was the first to leave Tulsa. All the work race crew has put into this moment, now comes down to 6 days. Everyone is excited to show how great of a car Inifinium is, and how well the race crew can perform.

We are expecting good weather this afternoon and should hit Neosho in a couple hours. For more frequent updates, be sure to watch the live chat, but the team will try its best to keep the blog updated with news and pictures.

We also wish the best of luck to our competitors. Hopefully all teams will run a smooth and safe race.

Closing in on Rolla

After camping for the night in the base-x tent, our team awoke to a beautiful day.  The cloudless morning sky allowed for a good morning charge.

While charging, our team re-packed the semi trailer and made some modifications to Infinium's radio.

Infinium is now out on the open road closing in on Rolla, MO.  Today we will be treating Rolla as a 1 hour control stop and Alton, IL as a stage stop.
